No-one can do it all alone. There are times when its helpful to get some support and some ideas in parenting. Some great organizations in PEI which provide parenting support are listed below.

Family Resource Centres, located across Prince Edward Island in each of the four regions, offer a variety of programs including children's programs, parent education, support groups, toy lending libraries, parent resources, prenatal nutrition programs, and outreach to smaller communities.

Our goal is to continue adding links to helpful organizations with a mandate of supporting parents in PEI. This month we are highlighting a few PEI organizations which help parents to deal with conflict.

Family Conflict

Are you going through a separation? Community Legal Information Association (http://www.isn.net/~cliapei/73j.html) is a helpful resource for parents. As well Positive Parenting from Two Homes (http://www.gov.pe.ca/infopei/index.php3?number=52004&lang=E) is a cost-free parenting program providing information sessions, currently offered by the Office of the Attorney General. These information sessions are available to parents who are separating, divorcing, or parenting from two homes. Sessions for children experiencing changes in their lives as a result of parental separation, divorce, or parenting from two homes are also available (http://www.gov.pe.ca/infopei/index.php3?number=80077 )

Transition House Association (THA) (http://www.peitha.org/) is a non-profit charitable organization which provides a place of safety for women and children who are victims of abuse, educate the public about the issues of violence against women and family violence, and advocate for the needs of abused women and children. Call their toll-free 24 hour hotline (1-800-240-9894) to talk to someone if you are living in fear and would like some support and information.

Child Find PEI (http://www.childfindpei.com) assists in the location and recovery of missing and exploited children and helps reunite them with their lawful parent/guardian. They educate the public on ways to prevent abduction and provide assistance and support to families affected by the trauma of a missing child.
